Fencing Requirements for City of Toledo Residents

Fencing in residential zoned districts are permitted on all property lines.  A building permit is required.  Two copies of site drawing required with permit application.  If a contractor is doing the work, he/she must be licensed with the City of Toledo as a Home Improvement and Remodeling Contractor and he/she will secure the permit.

Maximum fence heights from ground level to highest point of fence:

            Front yard:  3 1/2 feet    (Note: that corner lots have two front yards)

            Side yard:    4 feet  

            Rear yard:    7 feet         (The rear yard on a corner lot shall be at the opposite of the front yard with the
                                                        parcel address)

Before proceeding with installation of fencing: (1) locate and insure the accuracy of the property lines. (2) notify neighbors as a courtesy (3) check for deed restrictions and easements (4) secure permit.

The finished side of all type fences (including chain link) must fact the adjacent property, street or place.

Residential Swimming Pool Fence Requirements

Portable Above Ground Pools must be surrounded by a minimum 4' high (barrier) fence unless the side of the pool is at least 4' high and ladders are removed or locked up when not in use.

Residential In-ground Pools must be surrounded by a minimum 4' high (barrier) fence.

Be sure to check your local code for swimming pool fence requirements.
